A Malaysian cyclist at the Commonwealth Games who wore gloves with "Save Gaza" written on them has been reprimanded by his team and warned he will be expelled if he does it again. Azizulhasni Awang competed in the men's sprint on Thursday wearing gloves that had the word "Save" written across knuckles on one hand and "Gaza" over the other. Awang's fists featuring the message were held up to cameras after the race, which took him into the quarterfinals.
ICC has banned English Cricketer Moeen Ali from wearing pro-Palestine wristbands during the ongoing England-India Cricket series in England. Moeen Ali wore the wristbands with slogans “Save Gaza” and “Free Palestine” on Second Day of the Test match. But the gesture proved costly for the English batsman as International Cricket Council has banned him from wearing the wristbands after criticism by international media. While the international community remained quiet on Israeli barbarity in Palestine, it has come down heavily on Moeen Ali for raising his voice in favor of the Palestinians. However, England and Wales Cricket Board has supported Moeen Ali’s stance saying that his stance was ‘humanitarian not political’.

The Pakistan squad experienced mixed fortunes yet again on the fourth day of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, starting with boxer Muhammad Waseem reaching the quarter-finals of the men’s fly 52kg event after defeating Malaysia’s Jaya Raman Selvakumar in the round of 16. Waseem will face Lesotho’s Moroke Mokhotho in the first quarter-final on July 29 at SECC, Hall 4A. Meanwhile, all swimmers failed to improve their performance four days into the Games. Dubai-based Lianna Swan could not qualify for the main rounds in three swimming events, finishing 36th out of 45 contenders in the women’s 100m freestyle category, second-last in 200m individual medley and 32nd out of 38 competitors in women’s 100m breaststroke. On the other hand Anum Bandey finished 36th in the breaststroke event. Twelve-year old Areeba Sheikh came last in women’s 200m backstroke event, clocking two minutes 46.30 seconds, while Haris Bandey was 32nd out of 37 swimmers in men’s 100m butterfly competition.
The 60-year-old premier, who was a semi-professional footballer in his youth, scored a silk-toed hat-trick during the match, which was organised to mark the opening of a new arena for Istanbul’s Basaksehir football team. Playing alongside an impromptu team consisting of TV presenters, a renowned Turkish basketball player and his own mayor of Istanbul, Mr Erdogan slotted home three goals before being substituted at half time. His team went on to win the contest 9-4. The contest was played on a reduced pitch – perhaps in deference to the advancing years of some of the participants. Nevertheless, the tub-thumping support from those at the stadium created a febrile atmosphere.
Daniel Ricciardo upstaged the stars again Sunday when he won a thrilling Hungarian Grand Prix.
Australian Daniel Ricciardo charged to a thrilling Hungarian Grand Prix victory on Sunday, his second Formula One win for Red Bull, as a drenched track caused chaos among world championship leaders.
Rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes teammate and championship leader Nico Rosberg reached a new peak as Hamilton rebuffed team orders to let Rosberg by into third place.
Mercedes said it would hold a team inquiry. But Hamilton's success trimmed Rosberg's lead in the title race from 14 points to 11. The German now leads with 202, Hamilton has 191 and Ricciardo is third with 131.
Ricciardo, 25, held off Ferrari's Fernando Alonso to take first place in a race which saw several high-speed crashes after a heavy downpour just before the start changed the course of the race.
Ricciardo led twice before he fought back to recapture the lead with three laps remaining, following a series of daring passes.
Ricciardo's win was executed with great elan and confirmed him as a driver with the potential to be a future champion.
Ricciardo won the Canadian Grand Prix in June and is the only non-Mercedes driver to have won a race this year.
"This feels just as good as the first one," said Ricciardo. "It was a lot of fun in the last few laps, with the passing. I had to go for it."
Hamilton and Rosberg had a fierce battle on the track and via the Mercedes team radio as they tried to make the most of contrasting strategies in the changeable conditions.
Hamilton started from the pit lane along with rookies Daniil Kvyat of Toro Rosso, who had stalled on the formation grid, and Dane Kevin Magnussen, who crashed his McLaren in qualifying.
Hamilton was running with cold brakes in a car rebuilt overnight following the blaze, caused by a fuel leak.
Pushing to make up places, he spun on his opening lap and brushed the barriers at Turn Two. "My front left hit the wall.
The brakes just gave up," said Hamilton.
Another crash, when Swedish rookie Marcus Ericsson lost control of his Caterham, on lap eight brought out the Safety Car.
Jenson Button in a McLaren took the lead for a while but as the conditions changed he had to pit. This put Ricciardo back on top again.
Hamilton, sensibly, had pitted and was soon back up to ninth, within two cars of Rosberg, as the field, shuffled heavily by the rain and the Safety Car, began to settle again.
Both Force Indias were soon among the list of retirements. German Nico Hulkenberg crashed out at Turn One, after clipping team-mate Mexican Sergio Perez, and soon after Perez lost control at the final corner and spun heavily into the walls.
The Safety Car came out for a second time and Ricciardo pitted again from the lead, gifting Alonso the rarity of running at the front for Ferrari as the beleaguered Italian team struggled to end their poor form.
On lap 33, Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull car spun at the final corner and down the straight, saving himself from disaster by kissing the wall. Rosberg pitted, endured a problematic stop, and rejoined 13th.
Offered his chance, Hamilton seized it. On lap 34, he delivered a sublime pass round Jean-Eric Vergne in a Torro Rosso to take second and begin the chase after Alonso.
Alonso finally pitted again after lap 38 and Hamilton, from a pit lane start, took the lead. It lasted one lap before he pitted again, for medium tyres, rejoining fifth behind Alonso with Ricciardo leading.
On lap 47, Hamilton's race engineer Pete Bonnington warned him "Nico is behind and on the option tyres so don't hold him up."
Further warnings followed but Hamilton declined to heed them.
"I'll let him through if he gets closer," he said. "I'm not slowing down for Nico..."
Rosberg pitted again with 13 laps remaining. He rejoined seventh and battled his way to fourth and finished half a second behind Hamilton.
Rosberg said after he had been told by the team that Hamilton would let him by. "I don't know what happened," he said, saying it would have to be discussed "internally".
Mercedes cheif Toto Wolff said there would be "no knee-jerk reaction" to Hamilton's actions and there would be an internal inquiry.
Brazilian Felipe Massa of Williams finished fifth ahead of Finn Kimi Raikkonen, in the second Ferrari, defending four time champion German Sebastian Vettel in the second Red Bull and Finn Valtteri Bottas of Williams.
Tim Clark birdied five of his last eight holes to win the US PGA Tour's Canadian Open.
South Africa's Tim Clark birdied five of his last eight holes on Sunday to power past Jim Furyk and win the US PGA Tour's Canadian Open.
Clark, who won the prestigious Players Championship in 2010 for his only prior PGA Tour title, posted a final round five-under par 65 on Royal Montreal's Blue Course for a 17-under total of 263 and a one-stroke victory over Furyk.
Furyk, 44, took a three-stroke lead into the final round and seemed poised to claim a third career Canadian Open title, and end his own victory drought stretching back to his 2010 Tour Championship triumph.
Like Clark, the American had just one bogey and one birdie on the front nine, but he couldn't find the birdies he needed to hold off the hard-charging South African coming in, signing for a one-under 69 for 264.
Even for the day through nine holes, Clark caught fire with back-to-back birdies at 11 and 12. He added another brace at 14 and 15 to move ahead of Furyk -- calmly sinking a 10-footer at 15 in the wake of a 25-minute rain delay.
Furyk, who balanced a bogey at the fourth with a birdie at seven, then made nine straight pars before matching Clark's birdie at the par-three 17th to head to the last one adrift.
Furyk was unable to convert a 12-foot birdie attempt at 18 to force a playoff, his attempt sliding wide after Clark left a long birdie putt six feet short.
Clark made his par attempt to seal the win.
"I didn't really want to play 18 again in a playoff," said Clark. "It was huge for me to get it finished right there. I just got hot with the putter on that back nine."
Furyk, coming off a fourth-place finish at the British Open at Hoylake last week, has now failed to convert his last seven 54-hole leads to victories.
"I've got no one to blame but myself," said Furyk who didn't make a putt from outside four feet on the back nine.
"I played definitely good enough to win the golf tournament, but I only made two birdies and I've got to make more putts."
Clark's 17-under 263 total tied the 72-hole Canadian Open record set by Johnny Palmer in 1952 and Scott Piercy in 2012.
Graham DeLaet was the top Canadian with a tie for seventh. No Canadian golfer has won their home open since Pat Fletcher in 1954.
Nico Rosberg claimed pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday.
Nico Rosberg had mixed feelings again on Saturday when he claimed his sixth pole of the season for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix after Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton's car burst into flames on his opening lap.
The world championship leader took full advantage of Hamilton's bad luck and admitted he felt less than ecstatic at his success and would have preferred to have competed against his main title rival.
The 29-year-old German, who leads Hamilton by 14 points in their duel for the drivers' title, cashed in after the luckless Briton's car burst into flames in the opening minutes of a dramatic qualifying session.
"It's a pity for the team and for me," said Rosberg. "Again it's reliability and, also, I would prefer to be battling with Lewis and have the maximum adrenaline rush and not be like this... It's not the same.
"I am not so happy and not ecstatic about it."
Rosberg clocked a best lap of one minute and 22.715 seconds to claim his sixth pole of the year and the 10th of his career in an hour that saw intense heat, at the start, followed by dark clouds and rain in the final minutes.
He added: "Q3 was a big challenge. The track was changing all the time at the beginning I was the first one into the first corner. It was very difficult to judge. It was very wet.
"So, I took it easy and I managed to avoid crashing. It was massively difficult and unpredictable. And then it was drying and it was much easier and I managed to nail it with my last lap."
Reading the weather conditions in advance, Rosberg was first car out in Q3 and ran wide at Turn One shortly before Danish rookie Kevin Magnussen flew off and into the barriers at the same place.
That caused red flags and the session was halted for five minutes, resuming in damp, but drying conditions as the hot sunshine resumed - a scenario that saw a series of drivers in serious contention for pole.
Vettel clocked a best lap of 1:23.201 that put him clear at the top in the final seconds, but Rosberg responded to outpace him by 0.486 seconds to secure the prime starting position.
Finn Valtteri Bottas was third for Williams ahead of Australian Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull, two-time champion Spaniard Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Brazilian Felipe Massa, sixth for Williams.
Vettel said: "I think the nature of the track here suits us better, there are less straights and historically we have always had a competitive car around here.
"It is nice to be a little bit closer to Nico, but his lap still gave him a bigger gap at the end than we had hoped for..."
Bottas said: "I think it is a little bit of a surprise for me to be here, but the team has worked hard and the upgrades have worked well. It is a good day for us."
Briton Jenson Button, twice a winner in Hungary, in wet conditions, was seventh for McLaren ahead of Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso, German Nico Hulkenberg of Force India and Magnussen.
"We'll have to replace the engine and gearbox, but with that penalty it's a good thing (for a gearbox change)," said Hamilton. "I can't go any further back.
"There's a lot going through my mind, but I just have to try to turn it into positives until tomorrow. I think it's getting to the point beyond bad luck - it's something else. We just need to do better."
Earlier on a day of less-stifling heat than Friday, with a track temperature of a relatively modest 46 degrees Celsius, Hamilton was the second man eliminated in Q1, his car blazing from a first lap fuel leak just after Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado had idled to a halt in his Lotus.
Vincenzo Nibali completed his victory in the 2014 Tour de France on Sunday.
Vincenzo Nibali completed his victory in the 2014 Tour de France on Sunday as German sprinter Marcel Kittel won the final stage on the Champs Elysees in Paris.
Nibali finished safely in the peloton to succeed Briton Chris Froome as Tour champion.
Jean-Christophe Peraud was second with fellow Frenchman Thibaut Pinot third.
Kittel matched Nibali's four stage wins on this year's Tour with Norway's Alexander Kristoff second in Paris and Ramunas Navardauskas of Lithuania third.
Nibali went straight to his wife and baby daughter after crossing the finish line to embrace both and celebrate with his family.
The 29-year-old Italian first took the yellow jersey on the second stage and although he lost it on the ninth stage, he claimed it straight back on Bastille Day, 24 hours later.
Sunday's 137.5km 21st and final stage from Evry was always likely to end in a bunch sprint, with Nibali's Astana team manager Alexander Vinokourov the last person to win from an escape in 2005.
Australian Richie Porte gave it a go with a loan break but Kittel's Giant-Shimano team and fellow German Andre Greipel's Lotto-Belisol squad led the chase.
When it came into the final few hundred metres, Kittel launched first but was overtaken by Kristoff, himself a winner of two stages at this Tour.
But the German found a second wind and came back at the Katusha sprinter to charge through and match exactly his feat from last year.
Then too he won four stages -- including both the first and last -- and wore the yellow jersey for a day on stage two.
John Isner beat Dudi Sela 6-3, 6-4 to retain his Atlanta ATP title on Sunday.
Top-seeded John Isner won his second straight Atlanta ATP title on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over unseeded Israeli Dudi Sela.
Isner fired 15 aces and broke Sela twice in the 71-minute encounter, remaining unbeaten in three career contests with Sela.
Isner nabbed his ninth ATP title and a second Atlanta crown. His triumph over South African Kevin Anderson in last year's title match came after runner-up finishes to Mardy Fish in 2010 and 2011.
But the world number 12 had to fight his way through this week. In his opening match against fellow American Robby Ginepri
Isner fought off two match points en route to a 4-6, 7-6 (7/5), 7-5 win.
Sunday's victory gave Isner the lead in the US Open Series bonus challenge standings.
The top three finishers will vie for up to $1 million in bonus prize money at the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year that starts in Flushing Meadows next month.
"This is my favorite time of year," Isner said of the hardcourt season in his homeland.
"I'm off to a very good start again. I look forward to playing Washington DC again. I've played well there my whole career."
Sela had advanced to his first ATP World Tour final in almost six years, defeating ninth-seeded Sam Querrey and fourth-seeded Vasek Pospisil en route to the title match.
He lost in the 2008 Beijing final to now-retired Andy Roddick.
Scotland's Euan Burton beat Shah Hussain to claim under-100kgs judo gold at the C’wealth Games.
GLASGOW (Dunya News) - Scotland s Euan Burton won gold by beatin Pakistan s Shah Hussain Shah in the Men s 100kg judo contest.
Burton claimed gold to the delight of the partisan crowd at the SECC when he defeated Shah Hussain Shah of Pakistan.
Burton had come out of retirement when the opportunity presented itself to fight for Scotland in Glasgow - and the twice middleweight world championship bronze medalist needed all of his experience having chosen to step up two weights after moving into coaching following London 2012.
The 35-year-old, who suffered a disappointing first-round exit at the Olympics, produced some sublime judo against heavier men to make it to the final, where he threw Shah before holding him down to submission and taking in the wave of eurphoria as the Saltires flew around Hall 3.
